Since 2015, Bikramjit has led a center of excellence on biomaterials with the vision of enabling innovative research to produce biomaterials-based solutions in Orthopedics and Dentistry. With the involvement of biomedical entrepreneurs, 15 investigators, and 26 researchers, spanning multiple disciplines (including Bioceramics, Biopolymers, Biomechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Dentistry, Orthopedic surgery, Histopathology), this center is currently the largest of its kind in India (see overview and products below).

Bioengineering and Biodesign Initiative at IISc (Phase II):

Specific Role: Project co-ordinator of Biodesign projects, Funding: Department of Biotechnology, Government of India (2018-2021); [8 projects, 25 researchers, including 6 clinicians]

As project co-ordinator of Biodesign projects under this large multi-institutional research platform led by Prof. Ananthasuresh at IISc, Bikramjit is currently overseeing the research activities of 8 projects, which involve 40 researchers in academia and clinical institutions (https://www.be.iisc.ac.in/bbi2.html). The broad objective of this program is to strengthen the interdisciplinary basic and translational research programs by deep engagement with biologists and clinicians from clinical research institutions, including Christian Medical College (Vellore), Mazumder-Shaw Centre for Translational Research (Bangalore), St. John’s Medical College and Research Foundation (Bangalore), National Mental Health and Neuroscience (Bangalore) and a few hospitals in Bangalore. Other objectives include training of Biodesign innovators.
